位於高知縣西部的四万十川是四國最長的河川，也是流域面積第二大的河川，全長196KM的四万十川有「日本最後的清流」之稱。同時也是「日本三大清流」、「名水百選」、「日本秘境100選」。四万十川上方的47座沉下橋也是非常著名的景觀，1993年沉下橋還被列入高知縣的生活文化遺産、政府受到保護。
