要說日本是全世界最多吉祥物的國家一點也不為過，不僅各縣市府都有吉祥物來推廣觀光，甚至連商店街、博物館、公司行號都有。這些吉祥物不但有自的協會，每年也都會舉辨相關的活動，而「當地吉祥物博覽會」則是最大的一個，2014年即將在彥根市舉行，時間為10月18、19兩日。
